Ex-Chant Henry signs to play for pro team in Poland

ccuwhoops-henrydriveFormer Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball standout Angelica Henry has signed a professional contract to play in Poland with Basket ROW Rybnik.

Henry, who will receive her undergraduate degree in health promotion on Saturday at the University’s summer commencement, will travel to Poland at the end of August for a two-week trial period with Basket ROW Rybnik before joining the team’s roster.

“The fact that I have signed a professional contract still hasn’t fully sunk in yet,” said Henry. “I have been working toward this moment since I started playing basketball and I am really excited for this opportunity to continue my basketball career.

“I want to thank my teammates, coaches and everyone at Coastal Carolina that has helped me develop into the player that I am today. In particular, I want to thank head coach Jaida Williams and position coach William Clay along with strength and conditioning coach Sonya Woods for continuing to help me develop and refine my skills after my collegiate career concluded.”

“I am very happy and excited for Angelica,” said Williams. “She has worked very hard on her skills and has become a complete point guard. She sees the game well and her ability to put the ball on the floor and score the basketball makes her a very valuable piece to any team. ”

Henry finished her Chanticleer career with 1,021 points, ranking 12th on the Chanticleer all-time scoring list. In addition, she ranks fourth all-time with 325 assists and fifth all-time with 197 steals. She became the first player in program history to post a triple-double, turning in a 30-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance to lead the Chanticleers to a 106-71 victory over Charleston Southern in the opening round of the 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships. For her career, she averaged 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.06 assists per game.

Henry saved her best collegiate season for last as she averaged 14.5 point and 6.13 rebounds per game, while dishing out 5.0 assists per outing. She was named second team All-Big South and to the league’s all-tournament team. In addition, she led Coastal and ranked seventh in the Big South with seven double-double throughout the season.
