Ex-Chant Morrison helps Dash rally past Pelicans

Former Coastal Carolina University national championship team member Mike Morrison made a successful return to the Grand Strand on Monday night, helping his new team, the Winston-Salem Dash, rally from a 4-1 deficit to claim a 6-4 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at TicketReturn.com Field.

Morrison earned the win by throwing a scoreless final two frames. Fellow former Chants and current Dash teammate Zach Remillard went 0-for-3 in the game, but the Dash fired off two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Morrison slammed the door, allowing no hits, striking out two and walking two.

With the game tied at four, Mitch Roman singled to begin the inning for Winston-Salem (2-3) against Myrtle Beach (1-4) reliever Chad Hockin (0-1). A wild pitch moved Roman to second before Luis Alexander Basabe cashed him in. Basabe stole third and then Blake Rutherford, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4. In the last four innings, Winston-Salem scored five unanswered runs.

After the Pelicans had built a 4-1 lead, the Dash scored one run in the fifth on a Nate Nolan RBI double. In the sixth, Micker Adolfo racked up an RBI double before Nolan tied the game on a bases-loaded walk.

Nolan not only went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and the catcher also picked up two assists.

The scoring starting in the second inning when Aramis Ademan rammed an RBI triple down the right field line for the Pelicans. P.J. Higgins then knocked in two more with a two-run single to make it 3-0 Pelicans. After a run from Winston-Salem in the third, Higgins lifted a sacrifice fly into center field to make it 4-1. However, the lead did not hold.

Birds starter Alex Lange pitched five innings, yielding just two runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts.
