Former CCU player Jordan returns as assistant coach

Coastal Carolina head women’s basketball coach Jaida Williams announced Wednesday that former Chanticleer women’s basketball player AJ Jordan will return to CCU as the program’s newest assistant coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome AJ back to our program,” said Williams. “I have no doubt her tireless work ethic, ability to connect with our student-athletes, knowledge of the game and fierce loyalty will help lift our program to new heights. It is always great to welcome back someone familiar with the program, and when searching for a new coach, AJ was a no-brainer.”

Jordan played four seasons for the Chants from 2011-15, amassing 1,441 points to rank sixth among Coastal’s all-time leading scorers. She also finished among the school’s top 10 student-athletes in scoring average (eighth), field goals made (third), field goals attempted (third), free throws made (eighth) and free throw percentage (sixth), and is the school’s all-time leader in games played with 118.

As a senior in 2014-15, Jordan led the Big South Conference averaging 16.9 points per game while making a league-high 207 shots from the field. She also set the HTC Center’s women’s basketball scoring record with 36 points against Presbyterian. Jordan was twice voted first team All-Big South, and was a three-time member of the Big South All-Academic Team.

Jordan returns to Coastal Carolina after one year as a women’s basketball assistant at Pensacola State College, a NJCAA institution in Pensacola, Fla. Jordan helped guide the Lady Pirates to an 18-10 overall record in 2016-17, including a 3-9 mark In Panhandle Conference play. Jordan was also instrumental in the development of Nia Johnson and Ahyiona Vason, who were voted first team All-Panhandle selections following this past season.

After graduating from Coastal, Jordan was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Virginia Wesleyan for the 2015-16 season. The Marlins finished the year 9-17 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship.
