Former Sharks QB Roper among four CCU transfers

sjfoot-roperFormer St. James High quarterback Josh Roper is among four winter transfers to the Coastal Carolina football program, the school announced Tuesday.

Coastal Carolina coach Joe Moglia announced the addition of transfers Roper (QB, Univ. of Pikeville), Ray Lewis III (DB, Univ. of Miami), Adam Maxie (DB, Kent State Univ.) and Kyle Wilson (WR, Univ. of Memphis) to the 2015 roster.

The four players and their bios are listed below:

Ray Lewis III

5-9, 190, DB

Longwood, Fla. / Lake Mary Prep HS / Univ. of Miami

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Spent two seasons at Miami (Fla.) and will have three years of eligibility remaining … Redshirted as a true freshman (2013) and did not see action in 2014 … High School: A three-star running back by ESPNU, 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com … Rated 87th-best running back nationally by 247Sports.com and 99th by Scout.com … Selected to play in the 2013 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl … Set Seminole County record with 68 career touchdowns … Tabbed first team AP All-State as a utility player … Rushed for 1,898 yards and 20 touchdowns as senior … Added 676 yards and four touchdowns on 31 catches as well as 78 tackles and four interceptions on defense … As a junior, named second team AP All-State as he averaged 232.1 rushing yards per game, gaining 2,321 yards with 29 TDs … Had 92 tackles as a junior, collecting 290 for his career … Added nine career sacks … For his offensive career, rushed for 5,283 yards – averaging 170.4 yards per game – with 53 touchdowns while hauling in 56 career receptions for 1,190 yards and 11 scores … Son of former Baltimore Ravens great and two-time Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis.

Adam Maxie

6-1, 175, DB

Westlake, Texas / Covenant Christian Academy / Kent State University

Prior Coastal Carolina: Spent two seasons at Kent State and will have three years of eligibility remaining … 2014 (RFr.): Saw action in four games … 2013 (Fr.): Redshirted … High School: First team TAPPS All-Texas selection as both a junior and senior  … Recorded 137 tackles, one forced fumble and five pass breakups as a senior …  Totaled 117 tackles, 18 pass breakups and three interceptions as a junior … Father, Brett, played 13 seasons in the NFL, coached the secondary for 16 seasons in the NFL and is currently the defensive backs coach at Vanderbilt.

Josh Roper

6-2, 175, QB

Murrells Inlet, S.C. / St. James HS / Univ. of Pikeville

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Spent one (redshirt) season at the University of Pikeville … Will have to sit out the 2015 season per NCAA transfer rules and have three remaining years of eligibility … High School: Threw for 730 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior … Rushed for 286 yards and scored seven rushing touchdowns … Three-year starter at quarterback and also played basketball at St. James … Son of Coastal Carolina University Director of Public Safety David Roper.

Kyle Wilson

6-4, 190, WR

Tyrone, Ga. / Sandy Creek HS / Univ. of Memphis

Prior to Coastal Carolina: Spent two seasons at Memphis and will have three years of eligibility remaining … 2014 (RFr.): Saw action in the season-opening win versus Austin Peay … 2013 (Fr.): Redshirted … High School: Played in the Atlanta All-Stars and Palm Beach (Fla.) All-Stars Game … Helped lead Sandy Creek to a Georgia Class 4A state championship and an 15-0 record senior year … Second team all-county on offense … Caught 39 passes for 714 yards and five touchdowns … Caught two passes for 81 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown reception in the Patriots’ 45-10 over Ridgeland in the state championship game … In addition to touchdown reception in the state championship game, had a 44-yard reception on the first play of the game to set up a Sandy Creek touchdown on the Patriots’ first possession … Transferred to Sandy Creek from Alpharetta High School prior to senior year … Caught 19 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns for Alpharetta junior year … First team all-county on special teams as a junior … During sophomore season had the second-longest run from scrimmage in school history (92 yards) … Also lettered two years in basketball.
