Gamecocks give MB native Sessions nice homecoming

uschoops-5Sunday’s Carolina’s Challenge at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center was the final homecoming of the playing career for South Carolina senior and Myrtle Beach native Khadijah Sessions. The Gamecocks and a hometown crowd sent her out in style with a 89-57 victory over East Carolina.

True to the do-it-all style she displayed in six varsity seasons with the Lady Seahawks and four years at South Carolina, Sessions made her presence known with a modest but well-rounded five points, three assists and two rebounds. The point guard saw five of her teammates score in double figures as the Gamecocks get ready to make another run for the SEC and NCAA titles.

Tiffany Mitchell scored a game-high 17 points and A’ja Wilson posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. White scored 14 points and Coates and Dozier added 10 apiece as South Carolina dominated the Pirates from start to finish. North Myrtle Beach grad India Farmer saw limited action and had one rebound.

No. 2-ranked South Carolina got a third-straight double-double from junior center Alaina Coates and a season-high 18 points from senior guard Tiffany Mitchell at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The Pirates (6-6) got into foul trouble early against the inside action by the Gamecocks (11-0), and South Carolina out-scored them by 12 in the second quarter to take an 18-point halftime lead that would only grow in the second period.

The Gamecock seniors got the offense going early with Mitchell, Asia Dozier and Sessions scoring eight of South Carolina’s first 10 points to open a quick 10-4 lead in the first three minutes of action. From there, the inside game took over, scoring 20 points in the paint in the first half and making a steady parade to the free throw line.
