Girls soccer: CAMB in state semis; NMB upsets Airport

nmbgsoc-13celebrateThe No. 2-seeded Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach girls soccer team advanced to the SCISA Class A-AA state semifinals with a 4-1 victory over visiting and No. 3-seeded Spartanburg Day on Tuesday.

Mary Chandler Butler scored a hat trick and Katya Durocher added the Lady Saints’ other goal to match the deepest playoff run in program history.

Butler capitalized on assists from Natalie Markley and Rebekah Bowers for a 2-0 halftime lead. Durocher made it 3-0 in the early stages of the second half, and Butler completed the trifecta with a penalty kick.

The Lady Saints will travel to the winner of the Beaufort Academy/Palmetto Christian Academy winner on Thursday.

Monday’s games

The North Myrtle Beach girls soccer team captured a 2-1 road victory over Airport in Monday night’s opening round of the Class 3A Girls state soccer tournament.

The third-seeded Lady Chiefs knocked of the second-seeded Lady Falcons. They play host to fourth-seeded Berkeley, which also scored a first-round upset, in Wednesday’s second round.

North Myrtle Beach’s Ingryd Garcia scored one goal and Brooke Kennedy recorded the game-winner on a penalty kick.

* Myrtle Beach 6, Gilbert 0: Tristan Gordon scored four goals and made an assist to lead the top-seeded Lady Seahawks to an opening-round victory over visiting Gilbert.

Myrtle Beach goalkeeper Gabby Moore recorded another shutout, and Marisa Bruno and Amit Shitrit added goals as the Lady Seahawks advance to host second-seeded Beaufort on Wednesday.

* Irmo 1, Socastee 0: The top-seeded Lady Braves couldn’t get a goal to go down despite numerous opportunities in a first-round upset loss to visiting Irmo.

* Swansea 4, St. James 1: The second-seeded Lady Sharks were upset in the first round by visiting Swansea for the second consecutive season.

* South Aiken 6, Carolina Forest 2: The second-seeded Lady Panthers were upset in the first round by the visiting and third-seeded Lady Stallions.
