Golf: Sharks, Seahawks return to links with wins

After a three-week hiatus, the three-time state champion St. James girls golf team returned to the links without missing a beat by winning back-to-back matches in convincing fashion.

The Lady Sharks returned to play Wednesday at River Oaks against region rival Carolina Forest and came out victorious with a team total 155 over the Lady Panthers’ 197.

Senior Smith Knaffle and freshman Adrian Anderson tied Carolina Forest’s Victoria Callahan for medalist honors, all shooting even par 36. Senior Katie Smith and sophomore Amanda Meno shot 40 and 43 respectively to round out the four scores for the Sharks. Other scores counting in the match for Carolina Forest were Alaina Fortenbury (38), Fendi Chen (59) and Riley Hunter (64).

On Thursday, the Sharks continued to dominate traveling to The Tradition to face off against Waccamaw. Anderson led the Sharks with an even par 36 for the second consecutive round. Amanda Meno contributed a 41, Katie Smith a 43, and Grace Kenley a 55 in the 175-198 victory over the Warriors. Scores counting for Waccamaw were Allie Bird (47), Anna Brown (48), Brianna Hammond (51), and Kyndra Patterson (52).

* Myrtle Beach 187- Socastee 223: The Lady Seahawks beat Socastee after a three-week layoff from Hurricane Florence at Arcadian Shores Golf Club.

Myrtle Beach was led by Senior Essie Rikes 45, Taylor Pirttima 46, Sophia Livigni 47 and Madison Hinde 49.

Socastee’s leading scorer was Maddie Stewart with a 45, followed by Joey Kirkman (53), Lexi Neumann (60) and Briana Rau (62).

Myrtle Beach is now 6-1.
