Hoops: CF rolls past NMB; Conway tops Wilson in OT

The Carolina Forest boys basketball team opened the season Tuesday by blowing out visiting North Myrtle Beach 66-43.

The Panthers came out of the locker room in midseason form, jumping out to a 17-3 lead after one period. They cruised the rest of the way to start the season on a winning note.

The Panthers were led by sophomore point guard Kyle Watkins with 21 points and 5 steals. Alex Greene added 12 points and Mason Garcia scored nine.

North Myrtle Beach was led by Javi Marlowe with 13 points Raden Vincent had 11, and Tyron Stockdale chipped in 10.

The Panther’s will play Friday against Cape Fear Academy (NC). The Chiefs will play host to Socastee on Thursday.

* Conway 57, Wilson 52: The Tigers (1-0) rallied in overtime to defeat the reigning Class 4A Lower State champions in their home gym.

Conway trailed 42-34 after quarters before doubling up Wilson in the fourth to level the score at 50-all. Conway held Wilson to only two points in the extra period to seal the win.

Conway was led by Tonka Hemingway with 15 points. Braxton Graves and Isaac Henigan added 8 points apiece and Daquinton Grady finished with 7.

* St. James 69, Aynor 47: The Sharks (1-0) got off to a winning start to the season by beating the Blue Jackets (0-1) on the road.

St. James was led by Candido Ortiz-Robles with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Jeremiah Nessbitt added 12 points and 8 Steals. Harrison Willis added 9 points and seniors Austin Werba.

The Sharks played their first home game Wednesday against West Brunswick (NC), which scored a 58-29 victory.

* Myrtle Beach 75, Socastee 57: The visiting Seahawks (1-0) rolled past the Braves (0-1) in the season opener for both teams.

* Myrtle Beach 49, Socastee 25: The Lady Seahawks opened the season with a big road win over the rival Lady Braves.

* Wilson 84, Conway 17: Conway drew a tough assignment in its season opener against the reigning Class 4A Lower State champs.
