Hoops: Green lifts Saints; Seahawks rally past ‘Dogs

On a night chosen to recognize a milestone for Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach hoops standout Michael Green, the senior sharpshooter enjoyed a different kind of career night.

After being honored for surpassing the 2,000-point mark at halftime, Green went on to score a career-high 51 points to lead the Saints to a 93-30 blowout over Marlboro Academy.

Green put on a performance befitting his career at CAMB, connecting on 10 of 16 3-point attempts while making eight steals and grabbing five rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

Teammate Jalen Busby also had a big night for CAMB, recording a double-double of 20 boards and 13 assists. The Saints (8-8, 4-0 region) welcome The Kings Academy on Thursday.

* Myrtle Beach 62, Marlboro County 58: The Seahawks scored a key region victory on the road behind a pair of strong second-half performances by Emorie Knox and Da’Ron Finkley.

Knox and Finkley scored 28 of the Seahawks’ 35 points in the second half to help erase a 34-27 halftime deficit. Knox had a game-high 26 points and Finkley scored 14 of his 18 in the second half to lead the comeback win.

* Conway 47, Carolina Forest 41: The Tigers held off a tough challenge from the visiting Panthers in a big Region 6-5A rivalry.

The Panthers used a stiff defense to build a 22-19 halftime lead, but the Tigers turned the tide in the second half to pull out the win.

Carolina Forest (8-10, 0-3) was led by PJ Robinson’s game-high 12 points. Daquinton Grady led Conway (13-2, 3-0) with nine points.

The Panthers play host to West Florence Knights on Tuesday, when Conway travels to Socastee.

* Socastee 64, St. James 36: The visiting Braves jumped out to a 35-13 halftime lead and cruised the rest of the way to win the first installment of the Battle of Highway 707.

* Wilson 61, North Myrtle Beach 48: The Tigers had to battle to get past a pesky Chiefs squad in Florence.

* Wilson 57, North Myrtle Beach 47: The Lady Tigers prevailed in a showdown for first place in Region 6-4A. The Lady Chiefs suffered their first loss in league play.

* Marlboro Academy 53, Christian Academy 52 (OT): TeTe Jones scored her 1,000th career point for the Lady Saints but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Dragons prevailed in overtime.

Jones eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau with a key steal and layup that put CAMB up 52-49 late in the extra period, but the Lady Dragons scored the game’s final four points to win.
