Hoops: Tonka tows Tigers to share of region crown

Conway used a late-second basket to beat visiting West Florence 60-58 on Tuesday night to claim a share of the Region 6-5A championship.

Tonka Hemingway scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the double-double, including a layup at the buzzer for the game-winner.

The Tigers tied the Knights atop the region standing with 8-2 records but Conway settles for the second seed via a tiebreaker.

* Socastee 75, South Florence 51: The Braves put together a nice playoff tune-up performance with an easy win over the visiting Bruins.

* Hartsville 74, Myrtle Beach 71: The Red Foxes beat the Seahawks out of the third playoff spot in a close Region 6-4A contest.

* Darlington 58, North Myrtle Beach 43: Cason McClendon poured in 20 points for the Chiefs but the Falcons avenged its lone Region 6-4A loss to clinch the title and top seed.

* Carolina Forest 55, St. James 34: The Panthers won their final game of the season and avoided a shutout in region play against the Sharks.

PJ Robinson led Carolina Forest with 15 points and Jalen Simmons added 11. Jamar Nesbitt had nine points for the Sharks.

Girls

* South Florence 60, Socastee 38: The Lady Braves suffered a tough loss to the Lady Bruins but had already clinched the Region 6-5A championship.

* Carolina Forest 37, St. James 26: The Lady Panthers locked up the No. 2 seed in Region 6-5A with a win over the Lady Sharks.

* Myrtle Beach 51, Hartsville 37: The Lady Seahawks wrapped up the second playoff seed with a victory over the visiting Lady Red Foxes.

* North Myrtle Beach 36, Darlington 31: The Lady Chiefs clinched the third seed in Region 6-4A with a victory over the Lady Falcons.

* West Florence 66, Conway 38: The Lady Tigers saw their season come to a close with a loss to the Lady Knights.
