Jenerette, Pieterse, Braves in top five at state XC meet

nmbxc-jenerettepeaceThe Socastee High girls cross country team captured a fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Class 3A state cross country championships at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.

The Lady Braves (186 points) were led by four freshmen, including a pair of top-10 finishers. Crystal Shimer (19:30.23) and Jill Dudley (19:30.45) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, while Kyleigh Adorno (21:12.03) and Kasie Ingram (21:21.84) rounded out the top four Lady Braves.

The St. James girls (258) also earned a top-10 showing, taking ninth place thanks to a balanced effort. Senior sisters Samantha (20:12.24) and Christine (20:16.50) led the Lady Sharks by placing 28th and 31st. Sophomore Kelsey Glover (20:56.68) and freshman Karleigh Jones (21:22.69) rounded out St. James’ scoring.

North Myrtle Beach was 15th, led by a trio of Jenerette siblings. Senior Benjamin (19:25.35) placed fourth individually, Drake (19:51.47) was 18th, and seventh-grader Wilson (22:47.74) was 111th to lead the Lady Chiefs (435). Sophomore Faith Scow (24:33.78) rounded out NMB’s foursome.

Myrtle Beach (601) finished 22nd, led by sophomores Kailey Flannelly (21:55.34) and Madison Tilford (22:13.25).

In Class 4A girls, Carolina Forest junior Lisa Pieterse finished fifth individually with a time of 18:38.74 around the 5K course. Conway’s Kenia Smith finished 49th (20:16.12),

In Class 3A boys, Myrtle Beach’s Ethan Epstein (16:47.69) finished 20th individually and helped the Seahawks (440 points) place 18th as a team, edging rival Socastee (445). The Braves were led by Austin Goss’ 66th-place showing (17:53.44).
