La Salle snaps Lady Chants’ winning streak at 12 games

The Coastal Carolina softball team had its 12-game winning streak snapped by La Salle by a score of 1-0 on Sunday, the final day of the Chanticleer Showdown.

The Chanticleers (20-5) had a runner in scoring position during the bottom of the first inning, as Sarah Maples advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jazmine Daigle, but the Explorers picked up the final two outs before Coastal could get on the board.

Coastal held La Salle hitless through the first two innings, while the Chants picked up its second hit of the game in the second inning on a single by Cacia Pierre to left field with two outs. La Salle was able to record the final out of the inning before the Chanticleers were able to advance a runner home.

During the top of the third inning, La Salle made it a 1-0 game after Liz Reed hit a double to left field and scored on an error by Coastal during Alyssa Bitsimis’ at bat.

La Salle recorded only one hit through the remaining four innings and the Chanticleers looked to answer in the bottom of the seventh. Coastal had a runner in scoring position as Nicole Saggiomo reached second on a Cacia Pierre walk. The Explorers picked up the third out of the inning on a fielders choice before Coastal scored.

Kiana Quolas and Pierre each recorded one hit in two at bats for the Chanticleers. Sara Rasley finished the game with 11 putouts and Daigle had five assists.

Quolas pitched a complete game for Coastal, striking out six and giving up just two hits, while not allowing a walk.

Alicia Aughton posted the win on the mound for La Salle, as she pitched a complete game, in which she struck out four, gave up two hits and four walks.

Coastal returns to action on Friday against Long Island in the USF Under Armour Tournament at 9:30 a.m. in Clearwater, Fla.
