Lady Chants go unbeaten on hurricane home swing

ccuwsoc-19The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team played the Little Rock Trojans to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Appalachian State’s Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

The match, like Friday’s, was originally set to be a CCU home contest but was played on Appalachian State’s campus due to Hurricane Matthew.

With the draw, Coastal Carolina’s season record stands at 8-4-2, 5-1-1 in the Sun Belt, while Little Rock is 8-6-1 (4-2-1).

Senior forward Amber Adams led the team with three shots while eight other Chanticleers recorded at least one shot.

Throughout the game, the wind played a major factor in both teams’ possession of play.

Little Rock took a 1-nil lead in the first half when Fali Garuba headed in the ball off a corner kick in the 30th minute. The Trojans held the lead throughout the first half.

Early in the second half, Coastal tied the match, 1-1, in the 48th minute. After CCU was fouled near the halfway line, Kylie Bostick lined up to take the free kick. Bostick sent the ball into the box and with help from the wind, the ball carried itself into the net. This was Bostick’s first goal as a Chanticleer.

Just one minute later, Little Rock answered with a goal from Arola Aparicio-Gili. A through ball from Doro Greulich put Aparicio-Gili in a 1-v-1 situation and she was able to slide it past CCU goalkeeper Becca Austin for the 2-1 lead.

In the 61st minute, Coastal knotted the game at 2-2. Senior Ellie Taylor sent the ball into the box off a corner kick finding the head off Mel Flatter. Flatter directed the ball into the corner of the net for the tie.

The Chanticleers will travel to Troy Friday, October 14. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
