Lady Chiefs rally in overtime but NMB boys fall to Braves

North Myrtle Beach scored the game’s final 14 points to complete a 56-49 come-from-behind overtime victory over visiting Socastee on Tuesday night.

Trailing 49-42 with 2:44 to play overtime, the Lady Chiefs (13-6 overall, 3-2 region) scored eight unanswered points in the span of one minute.

Taylor Allman’s layup gave the Lady Chiefs the lead for good at 50-42 with 1:44 left in OT, and they hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the key Region VIII-AAA victory.

Allman scored nine of her game-high 23 points in overtime and a pair of teammates added double-double performances. India Farmer had 12 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks, while Ja’Quella Livingston tallied 11 points and boards.

Socastee (10-7, 2-3) was paced by Kirstin Zanardo’s 21 points. Katherine Mose added 14 points and Madison Lowe had 10 rebounds for the Lady Braves.

After North Myrtle Beach tied the game for the eighth time at 42-all, Zanardo hit a 3, Mose hit a layup and Zanardo added a pair of free throws to give the Lady Braves a 49-42 edge.

The big difference – other than the Lady Chiefs’ 14 unanswered points to end the game – was turnovers. Socastee committed 38 for the game, allowing North Myrtle Beach a 51-23 edge in scoring off turnovers.

The Braves held the Chiefs to just 26 percent shooting for the game and limited them to just two points in the second quarter for a 30-11 halftime lead. North Myrtle Beach connected on just 1-of-15 shots in the second period.

Travis Frye led the Braves (11-6 overall, 3-2 Region VIII-AAA) with 18 points and nine rebounds while Donovan Cann added 10 points and eight boards.

The Chiefs (9-7, 1-4) got a team-high 12 but no other player scored more than 5.
