Lady Seahawks snap losing skid at CresCom Invitational

mbghoops-43dribbleMyrtle Beach snapped a two-game losing streak in the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational in Saturday’s opening game at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Lady Seahawks (7-2) trailed only briefly early in the first half in route to an easy 52-31 victory over Daniel in a consolation bracket game.

Myrtle Beach, which led by as many as 24, was led by Kiana Adderton’s double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Kareena Oglesby was the high scorer for Daniel (1-6; Central, SC) with nine points.

* Marietta (GA) led by as many as 19 before having to hold off Dreher (SC) for a 62-55 victory.

Marietta (7-6) held its largest lead at 53-34 with 11:57 to play before Dreher (5-3; Columbia, SC) stormed back to close the gap to just four points.  Dreher used a 19-4 run to pull the score to 57-53 with 5:22 to play but could get no closer as they managed to connect on just 1-of-6 shots from the field and committed a pair of turnovers down the stretch.

* Riverside (NC) scored a 50-45 victory over Orangeburg (SC)-Wilkerson to advance to the consolation bracket championship game in the 2014 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Kayla Jones led Riverside with 16 points while Orangeburg-Wilkerson was paced by Dejoria Howard’s 16 points and 12 rebounds.

* South Forsyth (GA) defeated Floyd (TN) County 70-45 to advance to the championship game of the consolation bracket of the 2014 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.  The War Eagles will face Riverside (Durham, NC) for the title on Monday at 9:00 a.m.

South Forsyth (11-1; Cumming, GA), which trailed for less than 30 seconds early in the first half, was led by Sarah Myers’ 23 points and nine rebounds.  Floyd County (6-2) was paced by Ragan Wiseman’s 24 points and 11 rebounds.

* Shelbyville (TN) Central turned a three-point halftime advantage into a 53-31 victory over Fayette County (GA) to advance to the fifth place game of the 2014 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.

After trading baskets to open the second half, Shelbyville (8-5) went on a 19-0 run that opened  43-23 advantage with 7:02 to play.  Fayette County (5-3; Fayetteville, GA) could not close the gap to less than 17 points the rest of the way.

Romny Felts led a balanced attack for Shelbyville Central with 12 points.  To’Nesha Allison and Keleigh Hardy added 11 points each for the Eaglettes.  Fayette County was led by Darry Langford’s nine points.
