The scoreless streak is over for the Myrtle Beach All-Stars, but the winning streak continues.
After scoring back-to-back shutouts to open the South Carolina Dixie Youth Majors state tournament, Myrtle Beach found itself trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning in its winners’ bracket showdown with Maple Park on Tuesday night in Union. But the Myrtle Beach All-Stars mounted a furious comeback in the bottom of the frame, scoring all four runs en route a 4-3 victory.
Myrtle Beach started its rally on singles by Robbie Anderson and Max Hogan. Anderson scored on a Tate Hanna fielder’s choice, and Hogan scored on a Mason Foltz triple to cut the deficit to 3-2. Foltz stole home to tie it up, and Devan Harvey walked, stole second and scored the game-winner on Bradley Lecke’s double.
Myrtle Beach starter Devan Harvey pitched five innings, allowing three runs and striking out eight to get the win. Will Jackson came in to close out the sixth inning and struck out the side to earn the save.
The victory makes Myrtle Beach the only undefeated team in the double-elimination tournament. Myrtle Beach will play Northern Hartsville on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with a chance to move into the championship bracket.
