A pair of recent Grand Strand Sports Report Athlete of the Week winners made their college decisions this week in different sports, and both know how to swing the stick.
St. James High golfer Jordan White verbally committed to play college golf at Coker College in Hartsville with a partial academic and partial golf scholarship, while Myrtle Beach High baseball standout Luke Edwards verbally committed to play at Marshall University in Huntington WV.
White helped lead the Lady Sharks to back-to-back state championships and she has had a successful summer on the junior circuit. She shot a final-round 69 at Seabrook Plamtation to win the South Carolina Junior Golf Association Tommy Hubert All-Star Championship last month, earning her AOW honors.
Edwards is a utility infielder for the Seahawks who plays shortstop, second base and outfield as well as providing plenty of punch at the plate. He went 7-for-8 with three RBIs in helping the Seahawks to collect the AOW award in April and help lock up the Region 7-4A title by batting .424 with eight homers his junior year.
