Monday Wrapup: MB gets wins in softball, golf, tennis

The Myrtle Beach softball team knocked off North Myrtle Beach 5-1 on Monday, putting itself in the mix for the Region 7-4A title. The Seahawks, St. James and North Myrtle Beach all split their season series, creating a first-place logjam at the top of the standings.

Myrtle Beach’s Cayce Roberts was perfect at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two runs scored. McKenzie Coble went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Dakota Hansen went 2 for 3 with an RBI lead the Lady Seahawks. Carly Grace Bodge picked up the win on the mound.

The Lady Seahawks return to action Tuesday against Marlboro County with a chance to lock up the second seed and a first-round playoff game.

Boys Golf

* Myrtle Beach survived and thrived on a windy Monday at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, where the Seahawks defeated Georgetown 154-200.

Myrtle Beach was led in scoring by Dock Jarman with a 1-under 35, good for medalist honors. Holden Grigg (37), Chris Pacyna (39) and Dalton Todd (43) rounded out the Seahawks’ foursome.

Georgetown was led by James Gore (43), Trace Adams and Corey Stone (51), and Grant Hammett (55). These teams will meet again at Pawleys Plantation on Wednesday.

Boys Tennis

* The Myrtle Beach boys tennis team defeated West Florence 6-0 to move to 16-2. Four of the six matches were third set tiebreakers in which the Seahawks won all four.
In singles action, #1 Josh Wallen won 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 over Burns Grich, #2 John Cahill defeated Hale Emerson 6-0, 4-6, 10-7, #3 Rivers Cahill won over Wyatt Emerson 6-3, 4-6, 10-7, #4 Dever Smith defeated Worth Player 6-3, 6-2, and #5 WJ Vaught won over David Dubose 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. In doubles play, the #2 team of Carson Duerk and Bailey Morrow won over Austin Tyler and Robbie Fleschner 6-3, 6-4.

The Seahawks will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday against the Wacamaw at 5 p.m.
