Soccer Wrapup; Seahawks, Braves sweep twinbills

The Myrtle Beach boys and girls soccer teams scored identical 5-0 victories over their Carolina Forest counterparts on Thursday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Mason Lewis recorded a hat trick for the No. 4-ranked Seahawks (4-1) and he also assisted on one of two goals by sophomore Franc Lamcja. Lewis set up Lamcja for the first goal of the game at the 30-minute mark and Myrtle Beach maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime.

But the floodgates opened at the 50-minute mark, when Lewis tallied his first goal on an assist from sophomore and brother Jarrett Lewis. The elder Lewis struck again 8 minutes later on an assist by junior Aly Barr for a 3-0 lead over the Panthers (3-2).

Lamcja scored his second goal unassisted at the 65-minute mark and Lewis capped the hat trick and the scoring 4 minutes later on an assist by sophomore Jake Deskins. Sophomore Skylar Hribar came in to relieve senior goalkeeper Anthony Silvestri to preserve the shutout.

The Seahawks have scored five goal in three of their first five matches of the season – 5-0 over No. 9 Northwestern and 5-3 over No. 10 South Pointe in last weekend’s Cats Kick Cancer Classic. They defeated TL Hanna 3-0 before falling 2-1 in double overtime to tourney host Lexington.

In the opener, the Lady Seahawks stormed out to a 3-0 lead at halftime and added two more in the second half to down the Lady Panthers (2-2-1). Myrtle Beach’s boys and girls return to action for a doubleheader against West Florence on Tuesday.

* The Socastee High boys and girls soccer teams swept a doubleheader with South Florence on Thursday night.

The Braves (5-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 2-1 victory over the Knights. Jake Perito and Connor Norton–Baker scored goals for Socastee and goalkeeper Cole Renfrow registered seven saves for the Braves.

The Lady Braves (2-2) evened their record following a slow start in the Michael Nash Memorial Tournament last weekend by taking a 3-1 victory over the Lady Knight.
