No. 6 Chiefs wake up, take out Trojans in second half

The No. 6 ranked North Myrtle Beach football team wiped out a miserable first half with an explosive third quarter en route to a 35-10 win over visiting West Brunswick (NC).

Following a frustrating first half of unforced turnovers and costly penalties, the Chiefs (3-0) erupted in the second half to turn a 7-3 lead into a blowout victory.

North Myrtle Beach won its 16th consecutive home game but needed a wake-up call to get things rolling. After the Trojans booted a third quarter field goal to cut the deficit to four, the Chiefs scored two touchdowns in under a minute.

Zyon Belle returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to paydirt, and the defense forced a pair of turnovers to set up scores. Jordyn Gillings scooped and scored from 7 yards out, and Malachi Black forced and recovered a fumbled sack in Trojans’ territory. Belle rumbled 34 yards on the next play to make it 28-3.

North Myrtle Beach’s Ramsey Lewis scored on the first play of the fourth quarter for his second rushing TD, finishing with 101 yards on 10 carries.

West Brunswick (1-2) punched in its lone score with 8 seconds left in the game. The NMB defense limited the Trojans to 101 yards of total offense.
