Pelicans losing skid grows to seven in defeat to Dash

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were handed their season-worst seventh consecutive loss on Tuesday night by the Winston-Salem Dash in a 3-2 defeat from BB&T Ballpark.

The Dash’s (68-45, 27-16) Luis Gonzalez struck first against Pelicans (50-65, 16-29) starter Tyson Miller (8-8) in the third inning with a two-run home run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Yermin Mercedes smacked an RBI single, scoring Blake Rutherford to make it 3-0.

The Birds pulled within one in the eighth inning. Wladimir Galindo began the frame with a single before Roberto Caro doubled to put two in scoring position. After Tyler Alamo knocked in Galindo with a sacrifice fly, Caro scored on an error to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Kyle Kubat (6-1) secured the win for the Dash with a career-best seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Hunter Schryver earned his first save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

In the loss, Jared Young went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

The Pelicans conclude the three-game series with the Dash at 7 p.m. on Wednesday from BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
