Region 6-4A: Doty’s 7 TDs lift MB; Foxes rock Chiefs

What was expected to be No. 4-ranked Myrtle Beach’s toughest test of the season looked a lot like the other lopsided affairs for the undefeated Seahawks (6-0 overall, 3-0 Region 6-4A).

Myrtle Beach junior quarterback Luke Doty threw seven touchdown passes – three apiece to Da’Ron Finkley and Marcus Grissett – to lead the Seahawks to a 49-7 victory over visiting Wilson on Friday night.

The Tigers, who took No. 1 Hartsville to the wall last weekend before suffering a 14-13 loss, never had a shot against the amped-up Seahawks, who were playing their first home game since Sept. 7.

Myrtle Beach’s first two drives ended with Doty-to-Finkley TD passes, and Wyatt Roach hauled in a long one to make it 21-0 just 7 minutes into the contest.

Doty’s lone interception, Myrtle Beach’s first turnover of the season, set up Wilson’s first score to make it 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Myrtle Beach’s Shedrick Pointer made the first of two interceptions to set up Myrtle Beach’s next score – a 5-yarder to Grissett. Doty capped the first half with his third TD strike to Finkley for a 35-7 edge.

Doty started the second half the same way he started the game, hitting Grissett on back-to-back TD passes to Grissett, before calling it a night with a stat line that read 23 for 35 for 281 yards and seven TDs.

The Seahawks return to action Friday at home against rival North Myrtle Beach.

Hartsville 35, North Myrtle Beach 12: The No. 6-ranked Chiefs (5-2, 1-2) saw their 15-game winning streak snapped by the No. 1-ranked Red Foxes (7-0, 3-0) on Friday night.

Hartsville built a 21-0 halftime lead behind a pair of TD passes from Tryon Evans to JD Pendergrass, and Evans scored his second rushing TD of the night to make it 28-0 early in the third quarter. Evans finished with three passing TDs on the night.

North Myrtle Beach finally got on the board on a 1-yard sneak by quarterback Cason McClendon, who later hit Derrien Holmes on a late TD pass to close the final deficit.

The Chiefs travel to face rival Myrtle Beach next week.
