Riptides net wins, top times at BAC Battle of the Beach

riptideslogoThe Riptides Racing Team sent 16 swimmers to Bolivia, NC, over the weekend for the BAC Battle at the Beach in search of new state or sectional cuts, personal best times, to try new events for the first time, or to come home with a gator or two for their heat wins. All Riptides swimmers achieved at least one of those goals.

Mason Kinmartin posted two new state cuts (200 IM and 100 fly) and four of eight personal-best times. Peyton McWhorter made two new sectional cuts (200 fly and 50 free) and nine top-five finishes, including four first-places and four best times. She also received her plaque from the previous IMX/IMR meet for 13-14 girls high score.

Ireland Rose had eight personal bests and one top-5 finish. Emma Kinmartin, Kylie McWhorter, and Shane Reid each had seven personal bests, with McWhorter dropping 1:33.64 on her 500 free and finished in the top 5. Earning six personal bests were Connor Churchill with five top-five finishes, including breaking the 2-minute barrier in the 200 free, and Cameron Tedrow, who had the largest collective drops for the meet.

Earning two or more best times were Kailey Habib with four top-five finishes, Chandra Robideaux with three top-10 finishes,  Ella Speir with two top-five finishes, Ellla Habib with four personal bests and four top-10 finishes. Jake Flaherty swam to a personal best in the 200 IM and came away with two top-five finishes. Receiving the last gator of the day was Maddox McWhorter, who broke 1 minute in the 50 free for his first heat win.

The Riptides return to action next weekend in Charleston for the SMRT #5 meet.
