The Myrtle Beach High football team’s amazing late-season surge carried over into the postseason Friday night in a 48-7 victory over Beaufort in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
The second-seeded Seahawks (7-4) delivered an early knockout of the third-seeded Eagles (8-3), using three turnovers to help build a 35-0 halftime lead and cakewalking their way to the second round. They will travel to Lower Richland next Friday.
Myrtle Beach’s Jermani Green rushed for three of his four touchdowns in the first half, and quarterback Lawson Cribb threw three TD passes – two to Da’Ron Finkley – as the Seahawks offense continued to soar. Myrtle Beach has outscored its last four foes by a combined score of 237-27.
The Seahawks scored on their opening drive on Green’s 3-yard TD run, then the defense served up the Seahawks for a TD pass from Cribb to Marcus Grissett. Green’s second TD run made it 21-0 midway through the second quarter and the rout was on. The Eagles scored a late TD to spoil the shutout.
