Sharks steamroll Warriors to snap 12-game drought

The long wait is finally over for the St. James High football program, and the Sharks snapped their 12-game winning streak in impressive fashion.

Following a winless 2016 campaign that saw St. James hire veteran coach Joey Price in the offseason, the Sharks finally got the chance to taste victory Friday night with a 49-20 victory over visiting Waccamaw.

The win-hungry Sharks wasted little time helping their cause as Deondrey Stanfield’s touchdown run capped their opening drive. Following a defensive stop, St. James got a big boost from its special teams as Alex Homes took a punt return 70 yards to the house for a quick 14-0 lead.

The Sharks also got it done through the air as quarterback Berkeley Young threw touchdown passes to Josh Ritchey and Hunter Smiley for a 28-6 halftime lead. and they kept rolling in the second half to protect the rare victory.

St. James steps up in competition next week with a trip to Class 5A Carolina Forest.
