Shootout by the Sea: NMB boys, girls fall short in final

nmbhoops-44blockThe North Myrtle Beach boys and girls basketball teams came up short in their Shootout by the Sea tournament finals on Wednesday.

The Chiefs were outmatched by Loudoun Valley (VA) 86-48, while the Lady Chiefs suffered a 58-45 loss to Goose Creek. Please check back for full details. Other games included:

BOYS

* George C. Marshall 66, Calhoun County 47: Marshall captured the third-place trophy with a win over Calhoun County.

* Swansea 55, Manning 54: Effix Miller accounted for more than half of his team’s points with a game-high 29 to lift Swansea to a win over the Monarchs.

* Whale Branch 70, Byrnes 42: Camrin Miller scored a game-high 25 points and teammate Kenny Brown added 20 as Whale Branch blew out Byrnes.

GIRLS

* Goose Creek 58, North Myrtle Beach 45: The Lady Chiefs got behind right out of the gate and could never dig themselves out of the early hole in losing the Shootout by the Sea championship game.

The Lady Gators stormed out to an early double-digit lead, but the Lady Chiefs cut the deficit to six at halftime, 31-25. But Goose Creek had an answer for every challenge and pulled away to claim the tourney title.

* Byrnes 68, Manning 64: The Lady Rebels captured the third-place game with a narrow victory over the Lady Monarchs.

* St. James 38, West Florence 37: Hunter Clapham and Illenne de los Santos combined to connect on seven 3-pointers to finish the game with 14 and 11 points, respectively for the Lady Sharks. West Florence’s Alexis Jeffrey matched the game-high of 14 points.

* Loris 46, Southside 43: Iklea Green poured in a game-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Lions to victory. Nayah Rice had 14 to lead Soutside.
