Socastee falls; Beach Ball quarter-finalists decided

bgame07Bishop Gorman 84, Socastee 39 – Bishop Gorman (NV) scored an easy 84-39 victory over Socastee (SC) to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.  The Gaels (10-3; Las Vegas, NV) will face Shadow Mountain (AZ) in the quarterfinal round on Monday.

Bishop Gorman, which led by as many as 49 points, had no players play more than 15 minutes as the Gaels played all 14 players dressed for the contest.  Chase Jeter, who had signed to play at Duke University, led Bishop Gorman with 16 points.  Socastee (3-8; Myrtle Beach, SC) as led by Nijaye Foster’s 12 points as he connected on 4-of-7 from behind the 3-point arc.

 

Sagemont 72, St Francis 50 – Sagemont (FL) scored a 72-50 victory over St. Francis (GA) in the opening round of the 2014 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.

Sagemont  (10-2; Weston, FL) trailed briefly during the opening eight minutes of the first half but grabbed the lead for good at 17-16 on Typer Polley’s free throw with 7:33 to play in the opening period.  The Lions went on to lead 32-29 at halftime before taking over play on both ends of the court ion the second half.

Sagemont opened the second 16-minute period with a 15-4 run and never looked back as the Lions built leads as large as 22 points.

Keyshawn Evans led Sagemont with 23 points, while Prince Ali chipped in 10 points for the Lions.  St. Francis (10-3; Alpharetta, GA) was paced by Malik Beasley’s 17 points.

 

Knott County 70, North Little Rock 53 – Knott County Central (KY) trailed for just 18 seconds in the first half in a 70-53 opening round victory over North Little Rock (AR) at the 2014 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.

Knott County Central (9-0; Hindman, KY), which led 37-28 at halftime, built leads as large as 18 points in the second half to coast to the victory. Cameron Justice, who will be playing college ball at Vanderbilt, scored a game-high 27 points to pace Knott County. Evan Hall chipped in 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Patriots.

North Little Rock (8-2). the first program from Arkansas to compete at the BBC in the tournament’s 33-year history, was led by Dez Duckworth’s 15 points.

 

Shadow Mountain 67, Scott County 47 – Shadow Mountain (AZ), playing short-handed without three players, defeated Scott County (KY) 67-47 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.

Shadow Mountain (9-2; Phoenix, AZ), playing without injured Michael Bibby, Jordan Pace and Nate Hollins, trailed by two points briefly three times in the first half before pulling away for a 27-21 advantage at halftime. In the second half, it was all Matadors as they stretched the lead to as many as 20 points.

Shadow Mountain was led by JJ Rhymes’ 18 points, while Craig Randall added 17 points for the Matadors . Scott County (4-4; Georgetown, KY) was paced by Jamel Banks with 14 points.
