Softball: Chiefs, Sharks roll; Braves surge past Panthers

nmbsoft-swingThe North Myrtle Beach High softball team showed off its power in its second straight region game this week, blasting past host Wilson 12-2 on Thursday.

Following Monday’s 11-1 victory over Marlboro County, the Lady Chiefs improved to 4-3 in Region 7-4A play by pounding out 11 hits – including a home run by Andi Crimminger.

Crimminger went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Emmalee Ballard and Myatt Hardwick each went 2-for-3. Cissy Doolittle had another solid outing, striking out nine over five innings for the win.

With St. James wrapping up the region title on Monday, the Chiefs are in the hunt for the second seed and a first-round home playoff game with rival Myrtle Beach. The region race will continue after spring break.

* St. James 13, Marlboro County 3: The Lady Sharks celebrated their Region 7-4A title by knocking off a bit early in a five-inning mercy-rule win over the visiting Lady Bulldogs.

Brooks Spiva allowed only one hit and struck out four in five innings, and Kenly Daves homered for the second straight game to post a 2-for-3 day at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Lindsey Burdette (2-for-4, RBI, two runs scored) and Dominique Gross (2-for-2, RBI, two runs scored) also had big days with the bat.

* Socastee 7, Carolina Forest 6: The Lady Braves tallied four runs in the seventh inning to earn a walk-off win over the Lady Panthers.

Trailing 6-3 and down to their final three outs, the Lady Braves rallied to tie it up, and then got an RBI single from Loganne Bolinger to complete the comeback.

Socastee was led by Hailey Le Duc’s 4-for-4 day at the plate as the Lady Braves outhit Carolina Forest 17-16.
