Softball: Conway aces CF; MB rallies past Socastee

consoft-huddleThe Conway High softball team kept rival Carolina Forest from capturing a playoff bid Monday night by shutting out the Lady Panthers 2-0 in the Region 6-4A finale for both teams.

conway’s Chelsea Mitchell and Neci Hemingway combined to pitch a three-hit shutout as they alternated innings on the mound throughout the game. Mitchell got the win for the Lady Tigers (9-7), who claimed the No. 3 seed in the upcoming district tournaments.

Mitchell also contributed at the plate with a big RBI double in the fourth inning to score Ashley Rowell. The other big blow by Conway came two batters earlier, as Taylor Richardson hit a solo home run to left field to give Conway the only run it needed. Hemingway had the other hit for the Lady Tigers.

Leading hitters for Carolina Forest were Riley McTiernan (1-for-3), Carolina Barker (1-for-3), and Rachel Lindenberry (1-for-3) as the Lady Panthers will miss out on the playoffs while Conway will travel to Summerville to open the postseason on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
