The Carolina Forest softball team avoided elimination with an impressive 9-0 playoff victory over visiting Wando on Saturday.
Panthers pitcher Catie McGovern turned in a complete-game one-hitter, striking out five batters and walking two in the shutout.
Carolina Forest scored six runs in the second inning and never looked back. Jordan Martin drove in three runs and McGovern, Katie Endres (2 RBIs) and Emma Liles had two hits apiece.
Carolina Forest faces the loser of the Ashley Ridge-Dutch Fork contest on Monday.
* St. James 18, Lakewood 1: The Lady Sharks rebounded from their first-round loss with a resounding victory over the Gators. St. James gets a rematch with Colleton County on Monday.
* Conway 6, Goose Creek 1: The Lady Tigers stayed alive with an elimination-game victory over the visiting Gators. Conway faces a first-round rematch with Fort Dorchester on Monday.
* Darlington 7, Myrtle Beach 1: The Seahawks suffered a tough loss to the Falcons in the district winners’ bracket matchup. They will host the Beaufort-Dreher winner Monday in an elimination game.
