St. Francis wins CBHI title; MB claims best finish ever

cbhiSt. Francis (GA) used a strong second half to cruise to a 77-66 victory over Lake Highland Prep (FL) and capture the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational Championship.

Leading 35-33 at halftime, St. Francis (12-0; Alpharetta, GA) opened the second half with a 21-4 run to open a commanding 56-37 lead with 9:49 to play.  That run proved to be enough for the title as the Knights cruised to the win.

St. Francis was paced by Jala Jordan, the CBHI Most Valuable Player, with 21 points.  Maya Dodson added 19 points and 11 rebounds and Nichel Tampa added 13 points and five assists.

Koi Love paced Lake Highland Prep (13-1; Orlando, FL) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

* St. Mary’s Catholic (CD) defeated Myrtle Beach (SC) 45-39 to take home third place in the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational, while the Lady Seahawks posted their best finish in the 17-year history of the tournament in fourth.

Myrtle Beach (11-2) scored the first six points of the game and held the advantage until the 6:21 mark of the opening half when St. Mary’s (39-2; Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) Mackenzie Trpcic connected on a long 3-point field goal and tie the game at 14-14.

After trading baskets, St. Mary’s took the lead for good on a 3-point basket by Julia Hanaka at the 5:24 mark and went on to lead 26-21 at the break. The second half saw St. Mary’s dominate much of the play as the Crusaders built leads as large as 10 points late in the contest.

Trpcic posted a game-high 21 points to lead St. Mary’s.  Myrtle Beach was led with 12 points by Nia Sumpter.

* Providence Day (NC) took over the game in the second half before having to hold off Archer (GA) for a 38-31 victory in the fifth place game of the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Providence Day (12-1; Charlotte, NC) held a slim 19-18 advantage at halftime and scored the first six points of the second half to open a 25-18 advantage on a pair of Emilie Smith free throws with 10:30 to play.  The Chargers held a 10-point lead at 34-24 with 4:29 on the clock when Archer (10-2; Lawrenceville, GA) scored five straight points to close the gap.

Janelle Bailey then connected on a driving layup and Erin Whalen hit two free throws to stretch the lead to 38-29 with under a minute to play and put the game away.

* Christ the King (NY) defeated Lower Richland (SC) 54-47 to earn the consolation bracket championship at the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Lower Richland (6-6; Hopkins, SC) played in the consolation title game despite losing the previous game because Norcross (GA), which scored a 59-35 victory over Lower Richland, could not play due to a scheduling issue. Christ the King (6-2; Middle Village, NY) led the entire game.
