Softball: St. James outlasts late charge by Georgetown

sjsoft-2The St. James High softball team almost let a big lead slip away before holding on for a 7-6 victory over visiting Georgetown on Friday at Finway Park.

St. James starting pitcher Shelby Spaziani hit a two-run homer to help push the leads back to 7-3 but she left the mound in the seventh after Georgetown threatened again. Sarah Flowers came on to close out the final frame and preserve the win.

Spaziani went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Ali Valcourt went 2-for-2 with one run scored, and Kelsi Bachmann (two runs scored) and Kelsey Gollie (RBI) each went 2-for-3. St. James was outhit by Georgetown 12-11.
