Tennis: Braves, Saints net big wins over region rivals

The Socastee High girls tennis team delivered an impressive 1-2 punch over local teams on consecutive days to earn rivalry bragging rights and remain undefeated in Region 6-5A play.

One day after sweeping Highway 544 rival St. James in a makeup match, the Lady Braves returned home for a key region showdown with Carolina Forest. Socastee claimed a 6-1 victory over the Lady Panthers on Tuesday.

Socastee swept the singles matches and split the doubles matches against Carolina Forest. No. 1 singles player Anna Brice Cox won her match in straight sets, as did the rest of the Lady Braves solo acts. The Lady Braves also won at No. 2 doubles.

Carolina Forest’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles.

No. 1 singles Tatiana Harrelson scored a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep, and No. 2 Chloe Parker won the final eight gsmes to claim a 6-4, 6-0 win. No. 3 Ava McCauley and No. 5 Carly Jackson also won in straight sets and No. 4 Carolina Stokes battled to a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 victory via a third-set tiebreaker. Harrelson and McCauley teamed up to win No. 1 doubles and Parker and Stokes took No. 2 doubles in pro sets.
