South Carolina’s narrow win over Vanderbilt in its season opener failed to impress pollsters, but Clemson climbed two spots in the latest college football polls thanks to its victory over Auburn.
The Gamecocks, coming off a 17-13 win at Vandy last Thursday, remained ranked No. 9 in both polls, tying West Virginia for the spot in the AP poll and being leap-frogged by the No. 8 Mountaineers in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Meanwhile, Clemson jumped from No. 14 to No. 12 on both ballots after scoring an impressive 26-19 victory over their fellow Tigers on Saturday in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff.
Alabama overtook the top spot in both polls by pounding previous No. 8 Michigan 41-14 on Saturday. The polls agree with the rest of the top 10, with Southern Cal, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma rounding it the top five spots.
Florida State jumper over Georgia for No. 6, with Arkansas and West Virginia flanking the Gamecocks. The SEC currently has five teams in the top 10 in both polls.
