Volleyball: Chiefs, Saints sweep non-region rivals

The North Myrtle Beach volleyball team swept host Socastee 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-13) Tuesday in a non-region match up.

The Lady Chiefs were led by Raegen Matney’s 7 kills and 4 ace serves. Kayla Henley had 5 kills and Jordan Berger added 4.

On Wednesday, NMB defeated Waccamaw (2-1) and host St. James (2-0) in a non-region tri-match.

The Chiefs started out strong against Waccamaw winning the first set 25-9. The Warriors would not go quietly and took advantage of several mistakes by the Chiefs to rally in the second set and win 26-24. In set three it was all North Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs cruised to a 25-7 win led by Kayla Henley’s 10 kills. Raegen Matney added 7 kills.

In the second match against the host Sharks, the Chiefs stayed focused to win 25-16, 25-11. Sydney Bellamy had a team high 11 kills followed by Kayla Henley with 7.

* Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 3, Trinity Byrnes 0: The Lady Saints started off their 2018 volleyball season on the road with a straight-sets victory.

Sophomore setter Kaelyn Haldi led the way with 13 kills and 11 assists for the Saints. After training with Team USA this summer, seventh-grader Kyleigh Haldi showed she is ready to play at the varsity level by contributing 10 assists along with 6 aces in the win.

Seniors Charley Trout and Nicole Allabach each added 4 kills for the Saints’ attack.
